Guilsfield Community Bowling Club
Friendlies 2024
Friendly matches against local clubs are played throughout the summer season, at home and away.

Entry is open to all club members, regardless of ability - the objective is to take part in a friendly game.

The format of the match may be fours or triples - it all depends on the numbers wishing to take part. And we've been known to lend or borrow players to/from the opposition to balance the teams.

Our home matches start with a Spider game ...

Afternoon matches culminate in afternoon tea (naturally) - there may well be greater competition between clubs in the quality of the teas than there is in the quality of the bowls!

The Spider Game
Just a bit of fun to break the ice - open to all who wish to have a go:

The 'spider' is placed in the centre of the green.

Upon the appointed signal, each player bowls one wood from the edge of the green (one foot in the ditch) - all the bowls are in play at the same time.

The bowl closest to the spider once all the bowls have come to rest is declared the winner.
Entries are £1 and there is a prize.
Lilleshall (Away) - 18th May 2024
Fifteen members of the club made our way to Lilleshall. The rain held of, mostly, enabling us to play a close and enjoyable five rinks of triples. Our hosts edged the victory by 13 points; 2.5 rinks apiece.
St Michael's (Home) - 1st June 2024
A very friendly and competitive game, played on a warm and pleasant Saturday afternoon. Our visitors edged the victory by just 2 points overall. Thanks to everyone who played, helped to set-up and clear away, and especially to those who provided the tea.
Meifod (Home) - 10th June 2024
An enjoyable game played on a rather chilly evening for 'flaming' June - it was bright and dry and the green played well. A close match with a narrow victory for Guilsfield on this occasion. As ever, thanks to everyone who played, helped to set-up and clear away, and especially to those who provided the tea.

Llansantffraid (Away) - 24th June 2024
Many thanks to our friends at Llansantffraid for a most enjoyable game on a warm and sunny summer evening. Another close match with a narrow victory (7 shots) to Guilsfield. Thanks to everyone who played and to our hosts for the tea.
St Michael's (Away) - 13th July 2024
Thanks to our friends at St Michael's for an enjoyable afternoon. The rain held off (mostly)! Our hosts lent us a couple of players to play 5 rinks of triples and proceeded to beat us by around 30 shots overall. Thanks to everyone who played and to our hosts for the tea.
Llansantffraid (Home) - 29th July 2024
It was one of those beautiful warm summer evenings where the sun set over the Clubhouse as we completed our 18th end. Thanks to our friends from Llansantffraid for a wonderful evening's bowls and for allowing us to win by 7 shots. Congratulations to the team who achieved a 'hot-shot'. Thanks to everyone who played and particular thanks to those who provided the tea. Of course there was tea ...
Lilleshall (Home) - 3rd August 2024
After a slightly chaotic start ... 😊... we had a lovely afternoon of bowls with our friends from Lilleshall - even the Spider came out to play. The result is largely irrelevant - Lilleshall won by a handful of shots on aggregate, while Guilsfield won 3 rinks out of 5 and every winning team contained at least one Guilsfield player - it was that sort of a day. Many thanks to everyone who took part and especially those who helped with the arrangements.
Neuadd Bridge (Away) - 10th August 2024
The morning rain cleared and the rink dried leaving us with a hot and sunny afternoon for our friendly away at Neuadd Bridge - anyone would think it was summer! It was a most enjoyable afternoon's bowling with Guilsfield winning two rinks out of three while our hosts took the day 49-48. Many thanks to all who took part and to our hosts for a warm welcome, excellent tea and wonderful weather.
